JOBS IS PART ONE OF A CRIME SERIES ON INFORTWAYNE

In his 2014 State of the City address Mayor Tom Henry said that Fort Wayne “…must be a city where residents and businesses feel safe.” 2014 was a hard year for the city in terms of crime, so here on INFortWayne we’re digging deeper into the topic in an attempt to better understand how a city can cope. This week, we head to South Calhoun Street to Blue Jacket Inc., an organization dedicated to helping those with criminal records or a poor job history to become employable. If people have jobs – the reasoning goes – they’re less likely to return to jail, a phenomenon known as “recidivism.” We talked with Blue Jacket leaders and program participants to see how they fare, and got some encouraging answers.
